R. DeNeah Cox, MS, OTR/L, CHT

Director of Occupational Therapy

DeNeah Cox is an Occupational Therapist and a Certified Hand Therapist. DeNeah is based in the Southern Maryland (SOMD). As a Certified Hand Therapist, DeNeah specialized in the treatment and rehabilitation of complex hand, wrist, elbow, and all upper extremity sports-related injuries. She is currently the Director of Occupational Therapy for the Southern Maryland Therapy Division of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (CAO).

Education

DeNeah Cox attended University of Houston where she received her Bachelors of Interdisciplinary studies of Sciences, with a minor in Psychology. She then continued her educational career at Texas Woman’s University earning a Master of Occupational Therapy with high honors. DeNeah has completed a variety of continuing education courses with a focus on manual therapy, upper extremity care for all diagnoses, orthopedic pediatric care, burn management, splinting, and sports rehab.

Experience

Prior to specializing in the Upper Extremity, DeNeah has experience working in the hospital setting, Intensive Care Unit, pediatric outpatient, home health, and in-patient rehab. She has provided Occupational Therapy across the life span continuum. This experience has allowed DeNeah to apply a variety of treatment techniques and has enabled her to tailor her approach to meet the patients needs regardless of age or additional complicating circumstances.
DeNeah settled in the Southern Maryland area in 2017, acting as both a staff Occupational Therapist and then a Director of Occupational Therapy in a local organization. In 2023, she joined The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics to help the renowned and respected surgeons develop a specialized upper extremity rehabilitative program to add to their already expansive services. DeNeah has over 19 years of experience in Occupational Therapy and over 15 years of experience specializing in hand therapy.

Philosophy

DeNeah’s treatment approach is based on the belief that each treatment should be individualized and personalized to meet the needs of each patient. DeNeah’s goal is to provide the best evidence based care in order to maximize her patient outcomes. As the Director of Occupational Therapy, she is excited to onboard new talent and provide more direct specialized care to the Southern Maryland Region.

Personal life

DeNeah has three children and an amazing husband that has supported her throughout her educational and career goals. DeNeah enjoys hiking, shopping, hanging out with friends, and being involved in her children’s life. DeNeah is involved in her church including community outreach and truly believes “I can do all things with Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. Her best advice is to never lose hope and to tackle the world one day at a time but know you are never alone.
