Alexander Sharr, PT, DPT, CDN, CFMA

Director of Rehabilitation

Alexander “Alec” Sharr is a physical therapist based in the Southern Maryland (SOMD) area who specializes in the treatment and rehabilitation of complex knee, hip, shoulder issues, and all sports-related injuries. He is currently the Director for the Southern Maryland Physical Therapy Division of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (CAO). In addition, he has served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for the last 7 years, and to keep himself well-rounded he also works PRN at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Education

Alec Sharr attended Saint Francis University where he received his Bachelors of Health Sciences, with a minor in Exercise Physiology and Military History. He then continued his educational career at Saint Francis earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Alec has completed a variety of continuing education courses with a focus on manual therapy, movement screening, and exercise prescription. Among, these he completed his Certification in Dry Needling through the Institute of Advanced Musculoskeletal Treatments.

Experience

Since graduation, Alec has worked in multiple outpatient orthopedic clinics that have exposed him to several different rehabilitative methods and styles. He settled into the Leonardtown area in 2015, acting as both a staff physical therapist and then a clinic manager in a local clinic. In 2018, he joined The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics to help the renowned and respected surgeons develop rehabilitative program to add to their already expansive services. Since then, Alec has had a hand in the creation and growth of all three of the current physical therapy clinics into what they are today.

Philosophy

Alec’s treatment approach is based on the belief that each treatment should be individualized and personalized to meet the needs of each patient. The treatment itself will always benefit from a manual component and be firmly rooted in a movement-based approach. To accomplish this, he coordinates with the industry leading surgeons of Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics and his peers within the physical therapy clinics in order to ensure the best means of treatment. He is grateful to work with people that he is happy to also call his friends.

Personal life

Alec loves to maintain an active lifestyle. In his spare time, he enjoys running, exercising, hiking, and hunting. His favorite use of time is hanging out with his daughter Amelia, his wife Andrea, and dog, Teddy. Alec is excited to continue his involvement with the SOMD community.
