Anna’s ACL Repair Patient Story
Anna came to us with right knee pain after an injury while playing soccer in May 2022. She was found to have a torn ACL and underwent an ACL repair using a hamstring graft in June by Dr. Wymore. Following surgery Anna was unable to bear weight through her right leg for 2 weeks, and then was able to complete only very gentle weight bearing exercises until 6 weeks post-op. During this time, we utilized blood flow restriction therapy to build muscle strength while completing tolerable, low-level exercises to protect the new ACL.
Once Anna entered the next phase of her healing timeline, she worked extremely hard on building her strength and stability back in her surgical leg. At about 16 weeks, she was able to progress into running, plyometrics, and sport-specific drills. She completed physical therapy sessions twice a week, while completing her own gym routines outside of the clinic.
We are happy to say after the completion of her 9-month protocol and with all the tremendous work Anna put into her rehab, she is now back on the soccer field!
Congratulations Anna, your PT team will miss you!
